MEET JIM
Jim Smith is seeking re-election as TNRD Director for Electoral Area E (Bonaparte Plateau).
Jim has called South Green Lake home for 14 years. Before being elected Area E Director in October 2022 for a four-year term, he served with the South Green Lake Volunteer Fire Department for 10 years, retiring as Captain.
He also served on the Green Lake Snowmobile Club Executive for six years. His community involvement has carried into his role representing residents and advocating for non-profit organizations at the Thompson-Nicola Regional District.
SERVING AREA E SINCE 2022
Jim worked persistently with the transportation ministry to have the posted speed limit through the Seventy Mile House area reduced from 100 km/h to 90 km/h. Further speed-control measures are being planned at Highway 97 and North Bonaparte Road.
Jim worked with various agencies to have enforceable signage posted where semis were parking illegally in front of a resident’s home on the frontage road beside Highway 97.
The TNRD Dangerous Dog Bylaw was amended to include Area E and other areas, following concerns raised by a local resident’s experience.
As a retired volunteer firefighter and TNRD Director, Jim attended daily wildfire briefings provided by BC Wildfire and the TNRD during the 2026 wildfire season and shared important updates with residents through his Facebook page. Jim and his wife followed the South Green Lake evacuation order.
The Area E funding summary records $416,372.62 during Jim’s tenure: $43,352.75 in Electoral Area grants-in-aid and $373,019.87 in CCBF funding for community organizations and infrastructure. Northern Development approvals are listed separately below.
Jim’s regional board and committee work has covered health care, economic development, solid waste and utility systems. He has also worked with regional, provincial and federal representatives to make sure Area E’s voice is heard.

You may qualify to vote as a non-resident property elector. Ownership alone does not establish eligibility. Check the TNRD’s official requirements, including any documentation and co-owner consent requirements, before making your voting plans.
Use the TNRD’s mail ballot application to request a voting package. Mail ballots must be submitted by October 16, 2026 at the TNRD Civic Building, or October 17, 2026 at polling stations. These are submission deadlines; allow time for delivery. Check the official instructions for cutoff times, drop-off locations and application requirements.
There is no need to pre-register to vote. Qualified electors register at the time of voting and must declare that they meet the following requirements:
Residents on reserve land: Eligible Indigenous and non-Indigenous residents who live on reserve land may vote in local elections for the Electoral Area where their reserve is located.
